Supply chain is in the midst of a digital transformation. To that end, BOAT – a concept that brings together the business, operations, algorithms and technology – is important for supply chain managers that want to compress latency, improve productivity and reduce costs. In fact, in the digital supply chain, we may need a bigger BOAT than we’re used to. The key is getting the right balance between the four, especially technology.
On this episode of The Rebound, Ben Amaba, chief technology officer for the industrial sector at IBM Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, Joins Abe Eshkenazi and Bob Trebilcock and discusses a new risk management tool his organization is developing with ASCM designed to help supply chain managers find that balance in their operations, utilizing the right mix of emerging technologies.

Appliance manufacturing is an extraordinarily competitive space with complex distribution and transportation requirements. The products are large, heavy and bulky, requiring special handling; industry leaders have to compete on quality, price and customer service; and they have to service a variety of channels, each with their own requirements. That’s everything from big box retailers to mom and pop appliance stores to the contractor market. Now, we can add e-commerce and direct-to-home delivery into the mix.
On this episode of The Rebound, Marcia Brey, the newly-appointed vice president of distribution at GE Appliances, discusses how one of the country’s largest appliances manufacturers is transforming its transportation, logistics and distribution network to meet today’s challenges. Last spring, Abe Eshkenazi, the CEO of the Association for Supply Chain Management, and Bob Trebilcock, editorial director of Supply Chain Management Review, launched The Rebound, a podcast tracking what’s working now in supply chain management. Guests have included everyone from the BBC’s Katy Kay to supply chain leaders from Under Armour, AGCO and FedEx. It’s been a great launch to the series.
With the year about to end, the co-hosts discuss the last six months in supply chain management, and what they’re watching for 2021.
How we built The Chain
The idea for The Chain podcast began with ASCM’s initial journey into the supply chain podcast world. In 2020, we helped launch The reBound with cohost Bob Trebilcock of Supply and Demand Chain Executive. The reBound explored the issues facing supply chain professionals as they navigated the pandemic. Supply chain specialists joined Eshkenazi and Trebilcock to discuss topics such as diversity, equity, and inclusion; making sense of blockchain; and more.
Since the last episode of The reBound aired in April of 2024, we’ve partnered with WAG Entertainment to bring the power of supply chains to the screen. Coming soon to select streaming services, ASCM presents the docuseries The Chain. The Chain features compelling stories about how everyday products and services are made, processed, shipped and stocked so we get what we need when we need it.
